Test the Exception, Not Just the Standard
A quality standard is only useful if people can act on it when something goes wrong. Rehearse one plausible exception before the next release or handoff.
For example, trace what happens if a required data source arrives late:
- What signal reveals the problem?
- Who can pause the , within the agreed scope?
- What needs to be contained or communicated?
- What evidence is needed before resumes—and who decides?
If the scenario exposes a missing owner or an unclear restart condition, the standard needs . That doesn’t prove the process will catch every failure; it shows whether this particular response path is usable.
Try one scenario, record the gaps, and update the standard with an owner and review point. Better to find the missing step in a rehearsal than during a live handoff.
