Own Your Part Without Owning Everyone’s Outcome

When a goal involves other people, accountability can quietly expand into trying to manage their choices. Keep the boundary clear by pairing your commitment with a clear request.

For example: “I’ll organize the first meeting. Please choose a date by Friday; if I don’t hear back, I’ll pause rather than assume everyone has agreed.” You own the organizing and the follow-up. Others own whether they respond or join.

That distinction protects both the goal and people’s agency. It also makes review more honest: assess the commitment you made, the request you communicated, and what was outside your decision to control.
