Test the Working Partnership Before the Big Commitment
A cofounder fit is hard to judge from shared enthusiasm alone. Try a small, real decision together before making a much larger commitment.
Choose one customer problem and spend a week exploring it. Agree on a modest boundary—say, a few hours each—and make one decision that matters to the next step. Write down who owns what, how you’ll resolve a disagreement, and what evidence could change your minds.
At the end, review the process, not just the idea: Were responsibilities clear? Could either person challenge the plan? Did the feel fairly shared? Stop or adjust if the answers reveal a mismatch; don’t let excitement quietly create an obligation.
The trial isn’t a verdict on either person. It’s a way to learn whether you can make and revise decisions together before the stakes rise.
