The Work After “Done” Is a Deliberate Stop

Imagine finishing a project on Friday and immediately filling the freed-up time with a new commitment. The work is technically complete, but the transition never gets a chance to happen.

A useful thought experiment: before starting the next thing, take one short closeout step. Note what is finished, capture any loose ends, and decide when you’ll review what comes next. Then leave the next work block unclaimed until that review.

The lesson: follow-through isn’t only reaching the finish line. It’s choosing what happens after, instead of letting momentum make the choice for you. Try it once with a project you’re completing, then review whether the pause helped you choose your next commitment more deliberately.
