Libraries Make AI Learning a Shared Conversation
On October 22, the Public Library Association and Microsoft announced a collaboration to expand free AI-skills resources and training through public libraries. The plan also includes a peer Community of Practice for library workers; webinars and virtual workshops are expected to begin in December 2026. (Announcement from the Public Library Association)
The interesting choice is to make this more than a tool tutorial: library workers can learn from one another, while individual libraries and communities retain room to decide what fits. That creates a better starting point for trust—but the real test will be whether local feedback can change the training, not just decorate it.
A practical first step: invite patrons and staff to name one AI question they want answered, then use those questions to shape a session and review what still feels unclear. What would help a community feel comfortable saying, “This guidance doesn’t fit our needs”?
