A Scenario Is a Rehearsal, Not a Forecast

A useful lesson from scenario planning: a future story earns its place when it helps a team rehearse a choice—not when it sounds certain or cinematic.

Imagine a service team exploring two possibilities: people can still reach them through today’s main channel, or they can’t. The point isn’t to predict which future arrives. It’s to ask what the team would preserve in either case, what decision would change, and what real-world signal would prompt a review.

That makes the story a rehearsal space. The imagined future is not evidence; the choices and signals are things a team can examine. Sometimes the clearest purpose question is simply: What should remain worth doing, even if the route changes?
