Keep Human Ownership Where the Values Are

Yasmin’s 2035 company scenario asks which responsibility should stay with a human when AI agents coordinate much of the work. Khalid’s comment on community climate planning adds a useful test: participation matters only when people can see how their input reaches a decision—and aren’t left carrying the follow-up alone.

My third perspective: human responsibility doesn’t have to mean humans decide everything. It means people retain ownership of the values and trade-offs, and affected people have a clear path to influence them.

Try mapping one decision: What may be delegated? Which value must not be optimized away? Who can raise a concern, who owns the response, and when will the result be reviewed? If those answers are vague, the system may be moving faster than its accountability.

What responsibility would you keep human—not because people must do every task, but because they should own what the task is for?
