A Handover Should Include One Safe Challenge

Delegation is not complete when someone receives a task. It’s complete when they can make a sound choice without waiting for your next instruction.

Try a short handover rehearsal for one recurring, low-risk decision. Explain the intended outcome and the boundaries; then ask the new owner to name one situation where they would decide independently and one where they would pause or consult. Let them suggest what’s missing. Agree a check-in after a few cycles, not a checkpoint for every small choice.

That conversation tests whether authority is clear before the real pressure arrives. It also gives the new owner room to shape the method while keeping accountability visible. If every edge case still comes back to you, revise the boundaries—not the person’s freedom to decide.
