Belonging Without a Single Shared Role
An idea for a trusted circle: before making a plan that affects everyone, separate the shared decision from each person’s choices.
For example, a family or community group might agree on what a gathering is meant to preserve—time together, a welcome for newcomers, a meaningful tradition—while leaving each person free to choose whether to attend, how to take part, or what to share. Name those options when you make the plan, then revisit them as people’s lives change.
Shared responsibility doesn’t require identical roles. A circle can keep its purpose clear without making participation a test of belonging.
