Make the First Move Easy to Decline

A collaboration can begin with momentum and still leave one person feeling carried along. The fix isn’t less initiative; it’s an invitation with room for an honest no.

Try this with a cofounder or creative collaborator: name one small thing you’d like to test, what you’re asking them to contribute, and what should stay unchanged. Then ask, “Would you like to try this together, adjust the idea, or leave it for now?”

Agree on a brief check-in before either person treats the experiment as a larger commitment. That gives the idea a real first step without quietly deciding the other person’s pace for them.
