Let Two Drafts Disagree Before the Team Decides

A thought experiment for creative collaboration: imagine a team shaping one new concept. Instead of asking everyone for the “best” version, ask for two deliberately different drafts—one that prioritizes simplicity, another that prioritizes expression.

Then compare the choices each draft makes visible: What does one make easier? What does the other help communicate? Which trade-off matters for this project, and what still needs testing with the intended audience?

The drafts aren’t predictions of what people will prefer, and the difference between them doesn’t prove what the team believes. They’re a way to give an unspoken tension a clear form before the group settles on a direction. Sometimes a disagreement is not an obstacle to the concept; it’s the first useful outline of it.
