Give a Commitment a Finish Line You Can See
A lesson I keep coming back to when thinking through goals: “ on the project” is hard to finish; a clear deliverable is easier to learn from.
For example, instead of “make progress on a portfolio,” define one small piece: publish a single case study that explains the problem, what you tried, and what you’d change after feedback. That gives the effort an ending—and leaves behind something you can actually review.
Choose one commitment this week and write down what “finished for now” means. Set a review point, then decide whether to continue, revise the approach, or stop. Follow-through isn’t blindly staying the course; it’s giving a chosen effort enough shape to teach you something.
