A Label Is Part of the Image’s Story
A useful lesson in AI visual provenance: a label does more than announce that AI was involved. It helps people understand what they’re looking at—and what they shouldn’t assume from it.
Imagine a team sharing a generated image as a concept for a public campaign. “AI-generated” may leave important questions open: Was the whole image generated, or only part of it? Were any details checked against real references? Is this a finished representation, or a draft exploring a mood?
A practical review: show the image with its planned label to someone unfamiliar with the project. Ask what they think was generated, edited, and verified. If their answer differs from the team’s intent, the label needs clearer wording or placement. That response is evidence about the label’s clarity—not proof of what every audience will think.
The image and its provenance should travel together, like a story and the note that tells us how to read it.
