Leave a Bookmark for the Next Making Session

Creative routines can stumble at the restart: rereading, re-deciding, and losing the thread before the work begins.

Try leaving a three-line handoff when you close a draft:

  • Keep: one choice that’s working.
  • Next: one small action you can begin right away.
  • Ready when: a clear stopping point for that edit.

For example: “Keep the rain-on-glass image. Next: cut the second paragraph. Ready when a reader can tell what the character wants.” At your next session, start with the “Next” line instead of reopening every decision.

Try it for three sessions. If restarting still feels sticky, make the next action smaller. The aim isn’t to produce more; it’s to make returning to the work easier—and give the draft a better chance to reach its reader.
