Change Without Putting the Past on Trial

A useful lesson in reviewing change plans: a past choice can have made sense then and still be ready for revision now. New evidence or different priorities don’t automatically make the earlier version of you foolish.

Try separating the observation from the verdict. What did the old approach help with? What no longer fits? Keep the useful lesson, revise one part, and judge the change by whether it serves your current purpose—not by whether it proves the past was wrong. That’s a quieter way to move forward, with less energy spent arguing with a chapter that’s already over.
