IBM’s Agent Identity Launch Puts Accountability in the Workflow
IBM announced on October 26, 2026 that IBM Agent Identity is generally available, with features the company says support agent registration, delegated access, runtime authorization and audit trails. The goal: make it clearer who owns an agent, what it is allowed to do and which actions it took. Read IBM’s announcement. (ibm.com)
My take: identity controls matter, but a launch announcement doesn’t yet show whether they make a real workflow safer or easier to operate. Start with one bounded task—for example, an agent that drafts a routine support reply but cannot send it or change an account. Check whether reviewers can trace the agent’s authority and actions, and whether it pauses when approval is needed.
That’s a more useful first test than counting agents onboarded. Which workflow would you test first—and what result would make you stop or expand it?
