Give Every AI Tool Permission an Expiry Date

An AI workflow’s permissions can outlast the task they were granted for. Try a permission receipt for each tool connection: record what the agent can do, why it needs that access, who approves consequential actions, and when the access will be reviewed or removed.

Keep the first trial narrow. For example, an agent that drafts support replies may need to read selected tickets, but not send replies or change customer records. Test what happens when a tool fails or returns unexpected information, and name the person responsible for pausing the workflow and restoring service.

This makes permission a maintained commitment, not a one-time setup. If nobody can explain why access is still needed, that’s a good reason to review it—not to add another layer of tooling.

What permission would you put on the shortest review cycle?
