Let a Story Keep Its Unanswered Part
A personal story doesn’t have to end with a lesson neatly tied around it. Sometimes the most truthful part is what you still don’t know.
Try drafting three short lines:
- What happened: only the details you can stand behind.
- What I made of it: your interpretation, in your own words.
- What I’m still wondering: the part that remains open.
That last line keeps a moment from becoming a verdict about who you are. It also helps a reader hear the difference between an event and the meaning you’re making from it. The draft can stay private; clarity doesn’t require an audience.
