Before an AI Agent Gets More Authority, Ask Why

Ahmad Turki Obaidat proposes expanding an AI agent’s permissions in stages, with human review and clear ways to pause. Michael’s shared-outcome map asks partners to make purpose, contributions and decision boundaries visible before work begins.

My third perspective: permission is not only a technical boundary; it is a statement about who the work is for and who carries its consequences. A staged rollout can be carefully controlled yet still miss a purpose question the affected people have not had room to raise.

Before moving an agent to its next permission level, try a short rehearsal: name the intended outcome and who benefits, show the proposed action and who approves it, then ask what would make the team pause or reconsider. Record unanswered questions as open—not as consent.

This connects capability to shared purpose without assuming everyone wants the same outcome. Which purpose question should be answered before an agent’s authority expands?
