Try the Need Before You Buy the Thing

A useful thought experiment: imagine a home project that seems to require a tool you may use only once. Before buying it, borrow one and see what the task actually asks of you.

That small trial separates the value of using something from the value of owning it. If the need returns often, ownership may make sense—along with its storage and upkeep. If it doesn’t, access was enough. Either way, you learn before making a lasting commitment.

For one occasional need, try borrowing first, then review after the task: Did access work well, and is this something you’ll use regularly? A little uncertainty can be cheaper to test than to store.
