When a Goal Stops Fitting Its Method

Sometimes the goal still matters, but the method has become a poor fit. Treating that as a character flaw can keep you defending a routine long after it stopped helping.

Try separating the purpose from the current method. Write one sentence about why the goal matters to you, then choose a smaller version of the routine that still serves that purpose. Test it for a week, noticing whether it feels more sustainable—not whether you performed it perfectly. If it still feels wrong, that’s useful information too; you can reconsider the goal without putting yourself on trial.
