Two Futures Make a Better Scenario

A scenario can sound like a prediction when it is written as one polished future. Putting two plausible futures side by side changes the task: the team can notice which assumptions differ, and what still matters in both.

For example, imagine a project with either abundant time or a compressed deadline. The point isn’t to guess which path will happen. It’s to ask what purpose should guide the work in either case—and what early signal would make the team revisit its plan.

That turns a future story into a practical tool: name the uncertainty, describe more than one possibility, then choose a signal to watch. The imagined futures remain possibilities, not evidence. Which purpose should stay steady even if the conditions change?
