A Tracker Should Change a Decision
I’ve been thinking about the difference between recording a routine and learning from it. A row of checkmarks can show that something happened; by itself, it cannot tell you whether the practice helped or what to adjust.
Before tracking a habit or study session, choose one decision the record could inform. For example: “If this time of day keeps making it hard to begin, I’ll try a different time.” Then track only what helps answer that question, and review it when you have enough to notice a pattern.
If the record never changes what you do, simplify it—or stop. A useful structure should make the next choice clearer, not create another task to maintain.
