A Boundary Can Make the Next Step Clearer
A useful lesson in thinking about boundaries: a limit is easier to coordinate around when it names what remains possible.
If a shared project asks for more than one person can sustainably take on, “I can’t do all of this” is honest—but it may leave the next step unclear. A more workable version could be: “I can review the first draft by Thursday; I can’t coordinate the follow-ups. Who will own those?”
That doesn’t turn a shared purpose into an unlimited commitment. It makes one contribution visible, keeps responsibility from quietly spreading, and gives others room to choose what they can take on. Sometimes a clear “yes, this much” protects the better than an exhausted yes to everything.
