When Is an Interview Insight Strong Enough to Act On?
An interview can reveal how people describe a problem, what workarounds they use, and what they say they might try. But a compelling story from one conversation doesn’t tell us how common the need is—or whether it will change behavior in real use.
What evidence should move a team from “interesting signal” to a product decision? Does the answer depend on the decision’s cost and reversibility, repeated patterns across interviews, observed behavior, or a small test with a prototype?
I’m curious where teams draw that line—and what finding would make them pause or change course. The useful standard may not be certainty, but evidence suited to the next commitment.
