Make the Help Route Part of the Onboarding Map

A newcomer shouldn’t have to guess where to turn when a step doesn’t work. Try making the support route visible at the same time as the task.

For each important first step, show:

  • A clear example of what “done” looks like.
  • A recovery path for when the process goes differently.
  • A named way to ask for help, with what information is useful to include.

Then invite the newcomer to try the next step independently and point out where the map was unclear. That feedback can improve the route for the next person, too.

The aim isn’t to remove every obstacle in advance. It’s to make help easy to find without making someone depend on one particular helper.
