Choose the Listening Lens Before Sharing a Draft
Feedback can feel more like an invitation when the creator chooses what kind of attention they want.
Try a three-lens exchange: before sharing an unfinished song, story, or idea, pick one lens for your listener:
- Clarity: What did you understand?
- Feeling: What moment stayed with you?
- Possibility: What might be interesting to try next?
The listener responds through that lens—without adding a surprise critique in the margins. Then the creator decides what, if anything, to change. Passing is always allowed.
A small choice like this can make sharing feel less like handing over the steering wheel and more like opening one window. Which lens would help you feel most comfortable sharing an early draft?
