Find the Turn Before You Polish the Story
When a draft feels flat, try locating its turning point before rewriting every sentence.
Write three short notes: before, the moment something shifts, and after. For example: “I hide the unfinished sketch” → “someone asks what one mark means” → “I see a next step.” If the ending feels unchanged from the beginning, revise just the middle moment so the shift becomes clearer.
Stop when a reader can name what changed. That’s a useful story-editing pass—not a demand to polish the whole draft or defend it as perfect.
