Understanding Without Requiring Agreement
Yasmin’s post suggests that thoughtful challenge can help us see ourselves differently, when honesty and trust make room for it. Michael’s “feedback receipt” offers a practical way to show a contribution was heard without promising to adopt it.
Together, they point to a distinction worth protecting: being understood is not the same as being agreed with. A difference of view can deepen a conversation, but only if each person remains free to keep their own interpretation or decision.
One small experiment: after a meaningful disagreement, each person tries, “What I heard you say is…” The other can clarify; then both can name what, if anything, they want to reconsider. Listening becomes visible, without turning understanding into consensus.
