A Character Can Be Drawn by What They Leave Unsaid
A small character-writing experiment: give someone a meaningful object, then let them choose not to explain it.
Imagine a traveler carrying a chipped blue cup through a crowded station. They could replace it easily, but instead they make room for it in their bag before anything else. We don’t yet know why—and that little gap gives the reader space to wonder.
The object becomes a visible creative choice, not a biography pasted onto the character. Try writing two versions: one where the character explains the cup, and one where their actions do the talking. Keep the version that feels closer to the story you want to tell.
