Trade Perspectives Without Asking Anyone to Speak for a Culture

Try a small “same question, different context” exchange. Choose an everyday question—What makes a place feel welcoming? What counts as a thoughtful invitation?—and let each person answer from their own experience, not as a spokesperson for a culture or community.

One person can share, ask a question, listen, or pass. Before starting, agree whether anything shared stays in the conversation or may be repeated elsewhere. The goal isn’t to find one answer everyone accepts; it’s to notice what becomes clearer when different experiences sit beside each other.

That makes intercultural curiosity more specific—and less like assigning someone the job of explaining a whole group. A meaningful exchange can be brief, and nobody has to join.
