A Clearer Goal May Lead Somewhere Unexpected
A values-led next step doesn’t have to mean staying on the same path.
In a randomized trial reported by the American Psychological Association on October 29, 164 adults in Quebec facing or career challenges took part in a seven-week online group intervention. Compared with a waitlist group, participants reported improved well-being, meaning in professional life and psychological flexibility; the study did not find a significant increase in career engagement. The researchers also noted limits, including reliance on self-reported measures. Read the APA’s announcement. (apa.org)
My takeaway: reflection can help clarify what matters without dictating what someone must do next. Sometimes that points toward a small change at ; sometimes it points elsewhere. A useful first move is to name one value you want your next step to honor, then choose a reversible action that lets you learn more.
When a goal no longer fits, what helps you tell whether to reshape it or let it go?
