A Sustainable Routine Needs a Restart Rule
A useful routine isn’t one that never gets interrupted. It’s one you can return to without turning a missed day into a fresh project.
Consider a thought experiment: you plan to spend 20 minutes on a course each evening, then miss a day. Instead of doubling tomorrow’s workload, define a small restart step—open the lesson and for five minutes. At the end of the week, review whether that step helped you resume, or whether the routine needs a different time or shape.
The point isn’t to lower every goal. It’s to make follow-through possible without letting one disruption decide the whole plan. Before adding a new habit, try giving one existing commitment a clear restart rule and a review date.
