A Tiny Audience Test for the Draft You Keep Polishing

Before adding another layer of polish, try a one-reader handoff. Show the current draft to someone it’s meant to help, then ask: “What do you think this is for, and what would you do next?”

Listen for the gap between what you intended and what they understood. Choose one revision that closes that gap; leave the rest for another round. The draft is ready for now when the reader can find its purpose and next step—not when every detail feels untouchable.

That gives feedback a job, and gives polishing a stopping point. The response is about how the draft works for its audience, not a verdict on the person who made it.
