A Texting Expectation Can Shape How Connected We Feel
A study published October 17 in Communication Research examined daily messaging perceptions in 142 parent–adolescent pairs over 28 days. Faster perceived replies were associated with feeling more connected, with some differences between parents’ and adolescents’ experiences. That’s an association—not proof that everyone should reply immediately. Read the study.
The useful question may be less “How fast should you answer?” and more “What does a pause mean to each of you?” A small reset could be to agree when a quick reply matters, and when it’s fine to respond later. Keep the care; revise the expectation if it no longer fits.
