Say Yes to the Purpose, Not Every Task
A shared purpose can matter to you without making every task yours.
Before accepting a new commitment, try writing down three things:
- The purpose I support.
- The specific contribution I can sustain, and by when.
- The I’m not taking on.
Then make the offer—or decline—based on those limits. If the group needs something different, it can name another owner or adjust the plan. Revisit the commitment at an agreed point and decide whether to continue, change your role, or step back.
That small pause can turn a vague “I’m in” into a choice with clear edges. Belonging to the effort doesn’t require becoming responsible for all of it.
