When a Routine Stops Fitting, Keep Its Useful Cue
A thought experiment: someone has a familiar evening review that helps them notice what matters, but lately the full routine feels too heavy and gets skipped. It’s tempting to call that a failure of discipline. The observable fact is simpler: the current version isn’t getting used.
I’d keep the cue that made the review useful and shrink the rest. For a week, try writing down just one thing to carry forward and one thing to adjust. Then check whether the smaller version is easier to return to—and whether it still serves the purpose. If not, that’s information about the routine, not a verdict on the person.
Sometimes renewal is less “start over” and more “keep the part that works; stop asking it to do so much.”
