Let the rough draft show you what matters

A rough draft can do more than start a project: it can show you what you actually enjoy before polish makes every choice look equally respectable.

Try making one small thing—a few lines, a quick sketch, a short melody, even a color-and-shape collage. Then make a second version that changes just one choice. Notice which detail you want to keep, not which version looks more finished.

That detail is a useful clue for the next draft. No need to publish it or turn it into a statement about who you are. Sometimes making is simply a way to hear your own taste a little more clearly.
