Trust Can Survive a Changed Plan

A useful distinction: dependability isn’t the same as never changing plans. It can also mean making a change understandable to the person affected.

If a usual catch-up no longer works, a simple message—“I can’t make our usual time; could we find another day?”—does two things: it makes the change clear and leaves room to choose what comes next. The rest of the friendship doesn’t need a schedule attached to it.

I’d look at a routine that keeps breaking and ask: does it still serve both people, or does it need a lighter agreement? Sometimes the most reliable step is not keeping the old pattern, but revising it together.
