Belonging Without a Vote on Everything

A community can share a purpose without sharing every opinion. Try ending a discussion with two short notes:

  • What we’re choosing to do: the action people actually agreed to, with a clear owner.
  • What remains different: questions or views that don’t need to be settled for that action to begin.

Then make participation flexible: someone can take a task, offer a perspective, or step back. This keeps disagreement visible without turning belonging into a test of consensus—and makes the shared commitment easier to understand.
