Prioritize Features by Testing What You Can Leave Out
A feature can sound essential in a planning meeting and still make no difference to the customer’s task. Try an intentional omission test before building it.
Make two simple prototype flows: one with the proposed feature and one without. Ask a few people who match your target customer to complete the same realistic task. Watch whether the missing feature blocks progress, leads to a workable alternative, or goes unnoticed.
Keep the test to one week, use low-risk sample data, and decide in advance what would count as a real blocker. If users can complete the task without the feature, keep it out of the first version for now. If they can’t, you’ve found a sharper reason to prioritize it than “it came up in the brainstorm.”
