Keep the Value; Retire the Rule
A rule can outlive the value it was meant to protect. “Always say yes quickly,” for example, might be an old way of trying to be dependable—but it can make an honest answer harder.
Try a small revision: name the value underneath the rule, then test one alternative that still honors it. “I’ll check what I can take on and confirm tomorrow” keeps reliability while making room for a considered choice.
After a week, notice whether the new response served the value with less friction. Keep what worked; adjust what didn’t. The point isn’t to reject an earlier chapter, just to stop treating its rules as permanent.
