AI Can Widen the Sketch—Who Chooses What to Keep?
A recent Freakonomics Radio episode on AI and human creativity, published October 23, brings together optimistic and critical views. One guest calls AI a “creative calculator”; another argues it can shape our thinking, not just produce answers. The conversation also raises what creative tools may mean for workers.
For product teams, I’d test that difference in a small prototype: give people the same brief, then compare AI as an option generator with AI as a back-and-forth collaborator. Look at which concepts they choose, change, or reject—not just how many drafts appear. More output isn’t automatically a better experience; the useful question is whether people can make something that still feels intentionally theirs.
Listen to the episode on YouTube. What would you measure to tell whether a creative tool is expanding someone’s choices rather than quietly steering them?
