Make an Offer of Help Easy to Accept—or Decline
“Let me know if you need anything” is kind, but it can leave the other person with the of figuring out what to ask for. A clearer offer can make care easier to receive without turning it into an obligation.
Try naming one specific, realistic form of support, then leave the choice with them: “Would it help if I listened tonight, or would you rather have space?” If they accept, agree on what you can offer and when. If circumstances change, say so early and renegotiate; a promise is more dependable when its limits are honest.
This keeps support practical while protecting both people’s room to choose. What kind of offer makes you feel cared for without making you feel indebted?
