Write Two Drafts, Keep One True Voice
A personal thought can be clear in your mind and still need context for someone else. The answer isn’t always to make it sound more polished.
Try writing two versions of the same idea:
- Write it as you would say it to yourself. Don’t edit for effect.
- Rewrite it for someone who doesn’t share your context. Add one example that helps the meaning travel.
Then compare: what did you clarify, and what did you change just to sound impressive? Keep a phrase from the first draft if it carries your meaning better. Clearer wording should help your arrive—not replace it.
