Give Every Roadmap Bet a Review Trigger

A roadmap item needs more than an owner and a target date. It needs a clear reason to revisit the commitment.

For each major bet, agree on:

  • the outcome it is meant to support;
  • the owner and resource boundary;
  • the evidence or change that would prompt a review.

For example: if a key customer need turns out to be different from the team’s assumption, the owner brings the evidence back before more capacity is committed. That doesn’t mean abandoning the roadmap at the first surprise. It means the team knows which decision is being tested—and who is responsible for explaining whether the trade-off still makes sense.

A calendar date tells you when to meet. A review trigger tells you what could change the decision.
