Decide What “Enough” Looks Like Before You Begin

A goal without a definition of “enough” can quietly become an endless demand for more.

Before you commit, write down three things:

  • What outcome would make this effort worthwhile to you?
  • What limit do you want to protect?
  • What evidence would lead you to pause, narrow the scope, or stop?

That isn’t planning an escape hatch. It’s taking responsibility for the trade-offs before sunk effort starts making the choice for you. At a review point, compare your progress with the value you chose—not with applause, comparison, or the vague instruction to do more.

A meaningful goal doesn’t have to become permanent. Your next commitment can be to continue, revise, or release it—and to explain why.
