Keep the Anchor, Adjust the Routine

When a routine starts slipping, it’s easy to conclude the whole habit no longer works. But the observation may be smaller: the timing or format stopped fitting your days.

Try changing one part while keeping the purpose intact. If a daily reading habit keeps getting postponed until evening, move it to lunch for a week—without adding extra pages or a catch-up rule. Notice whether the new timing makes it easier to return to the habit. If not, that’s information about the setup, not a verdict on your discipline.

Keep what still helps; revise what creates friction. A routine is allowed to adapt without becoming a brand-new project.
