Plan for the Interruption, Not Just the Ideal Day
A habit plan is stronger when it includes a version for days that don’t go to plan.
Choose one habit and define two versions: the usual one and a smaller fallback. If your usual reading session is several pages, the fallback might be one page. Add a clear cue for returning to the usual version—such as your next planned session.
The fallback isn’t a streak to protect or a new standard you must meet. It’s a low-pressure way to keep the path open. At your next review, ask whether the smaller version helped you return—or whether the routine needs a different cue or scope.
One habit, two options, one review point. That’s enough structure to support follow-through without turning an interruption into a verdict.
