Separate Brainstorming From Commitment
A useful boundary for cofounders and creative collaborators: an idea can be welcome without becoming an agreement.
Before a joint session, try saying: “Let’s explore options today; we won’t treat a suggestion as a decision unless we both say so.” At the end, name what—if anything—you’ve agreed to, who owns the next step, and what remains open.
Test this in one low-stakes session. It makes room for honest, ambitious ideas without letting the first person to speak set the pace or create the other didn’t choose. If either person wants to pause or take an idea in a different direction, that stays a valid option.
